Here's how I ended up with my funky, art nouveau, engagement ring.

Alex and I went to buy a ring for my birthday. The ring I wanted had been sold, but the store received several striking art nouveau rings. When we found out how much my favorite ring cost, I told Alex that he could just come back and buy this ring when he's ready to propose. Therefore, I shouldn't have been surprised when he told me he bought it, but I was, and I love it dearly.
